Total amount of money received by GambleAware as voluntary donations from the gambling industry (including additional donations in the form of unclaimed winnings, dormant accounts and other, but excluding regulatory settlements) in 2018/19 (April 2018 to March 2019): £9.6M.

Donations received in 2018/19

Please note that:

• Only donations for 2018/19 received for the 12 months up to 31 March 2019 are published above.
• Only donations made directly to GambleAware are published above.
• Donations from individuals and organisations who do not derive an income from gambling are seldom received by GambleAware. These donations, which amounted to £15k are included in the total.
• ‘Additional’ donations from organisations that derive an income from gambling are seldom received by GambleAware – often these represent the donations of unclaimed winnings, dormant accounts or similar.  These donations, which amounted to £302k in 2018/19, are not included above.
• Over the course of this year we asked all supporters to ‘self-certify’ the proportion of GGY their donation to GambleAware represents. Donors who provide assurance that this is at least 0.1% of their GGY will be acknowledged on this site by 30 April 2019. Please note that self-certification is not compulsory, and donations are accepted from organisations that choose not to certify that they are donating the recommended contribution to GambleAware.

Regulatory Settlements

Within the regulatory process, licenced operators may offer to make donations to socially responsible causes as part of a regulatory settlement with the Gambling Commission (the Commission).

A regulatory settlement is a resolution between the Commission and an operator in cases where concerns have been raised about the operator. In these instances, the Commission and the operator agree on a course of action which meets the Commission’s regulatory objectives, without having to use the Commission’s regulatory powers. Where payments are made in lieu of a financial penalty as part of a regulatory settlement with the aim of addressing gambling-related harms, money could be paid to GambleAware to accelerate the delivery of the strategy rather than displacing ordinary funding.

In 2018/19, GambleAware received £7.3 million towards its work under the terms of such agreements, which is allowing it to invest in a range of research, education and treatment projects over and above those funded by ordinary donations.
