Foundation Evaluation of Surrey Prisons Gambling Service
KantarPublic
Overview
GambleAware has commissioned this programme as part of its strategic aim to minimise the level of gambling-related harm by funding effective harm-minimisation strategies and helping individuals experiencing harm to access support.
The Surrey Prisons Gambling Service (SPGS) will operate in five Surrey prisons where Central and North West London (CNWL) Addiction Services already deliver primary care, mental health, and substance misuse services.
The SPGS will include screening and treatment for problem gambling across all five prisons, namely HMP Bronzefield, HMP High Down, HMP Downview, HMP Send and HMP Coldingley. The programme’s core aims include identifying the prevalence of problem gambling across these prisons and creating a uniform process for awareness raising and screening for problem gambling.
The SPGS is a 3-year programme which runs from July 2020 to April 2023. GambleAware has commissioned this programme as part of its strategic aim to minimise the level of gambling-related harm by funding effective harm-minimisation strategies and helping individuals experiencing harm to access support.
The Evaluation
With the service mobilisation phase running from August to December 2020, this foundation stage evaluation aims to establish clear guidance for the full evaluation of the programme. This guidance will include the development of the programme’s Logic Model; assessment of the feasibility of evaluation methods; and clear recommendations about the methodology of future process and impact evaluation strands.
Methods
Qualitative research methods will be used to create primary data for the foundation evaluation, including depth interviews. Secondary data analysis of management information will also be conducted.
